Fishing
Manor Farm has a well stocked private pond from which you can try your luck
at landing the different fish.

The pond is for coarse fishing.
Guests
at Manor Farm are able to use it for private pleasure.
The breeds of fish that are in the pond are:-
Roach
Rudd
Common Carp
Mirror Carp.
The size of the pond is 80 by 35 meters and 2 meters deep, in the summer it
is used for irrigation purposes to irrigate potatoes, it fill naturally for
ground springs in the floor of the pond, the watertable here is only 1 meter
below soil surface. The fill rate is about 10,000 liters per hour, from about 10
springs, 4 of these are so strong that the pond does not freeze completely over
even when the temperature falls down to 10 degrees c below. At this time it is a
welcome place for birds to drink.
From the photo you can see an electric fence, this is to keep Otters from
killing the fish and just leaving then on the side of the pond to rot. No harm
comes to the Otter which have been released into the River Derwent river system
in recent years, a very successful and rewarding introduction.
The pond was stocked by the Environment Agency ( a different department from
the department that released the Otters!) and is used as a stock pond for
replacing stocks of fish in rivers or reservoirs where restocking has had to
occur. These fish are breeding and their offspring will be used for the
continuation of this replacement policy
Try you luck!
